The Dutch CMM Lead Assessor Programme consists of three phases:

  1. The Initial CMM Assessor Training Phase, during which you receive basic CMM- and Assessment-training. The initial CMM Assessor Training is offered through public courses. For enrolling in the second phase, successful completion of the first phase is mandatory, unless you have already followed "SEI's Introduction to the CMM" and official "CBA IPI" training elsewhere.
  2. The CMM Assessor Guidance phase. During this phase you are mentored to become an independent CMM-assessor, and your skills are brought to the level where you can enroll in the SEI Lead Assessor Course. After succesful completion of phase two, your organization can take an AFA Licence Contract for the independent usage of all AFA-materials.
  3. The CMM Lead Assessor Monitoring and Registration Phase. During this phase you are mentored and evaluated until you are officially registered as an SEI-authorized lead Assessor.

Phase One: Initial CMM Assessor Training Phase

Step 1.1 You have checked whether you fulfil the first three SEI-requirements (above) for entering the SEI Lead Assessor Programme.

If you haven't yet, you will follow the SEI's Introduction to the CMM course, which is publicly offered by SPI Partners and ISPI on 19-21 April, 1999 in The Netherlands. Completion of this course will fulfil the fourth SEI-requirement for enrolling in the SEI Lead Assessor Programme.

Step 1.2 You follow the Action Focused Assessment Method course. This is the enriched (CAF-compliant) CBA IPI course, which is publically offered on 6-12 May 1999 in The Netherlands.
After completion of this course you have been trained in conducting CMM assessments for internal process improvement.

Step 2.1 You decide to continue the CMM Lead Assessor Education Programme. Your organization closes a contract with ISPI and SPI Partners for your enrolling into the CMM Lead Assessor Guidance Programme. Under this contract it is agreed that:
  • Your organization obtains the selling rights of the AFA-method. You will sell the AFA-method, and you close AFA- contracts with your customers (if necessary, ISPI and SPI Partners will help you to do the selling part).
  • ISPI and SPI Partners will coach your organization during three AFA-assessments: We provide the necessary Lead Assessors, Assessors and Instructors for your Assessment Teams. Two of the three guided assessments take place during phase two. The final assessment takes place during phase three.
  • During the assessment team trainings (in the startup-phase of each assessment) you will practice in being the instructor for the team training. You are mentored by the Lead Assessor.

The fee for the ISPI/SPI Partners' Assessors and instructors is based on a daily rate only. If no assessments take place, there are no costs. Up to three junior assessors of your organization can be coached under one AFA Guidance Contract (without extra cost).
